The Challenge
The client, an enterprise camp provider, was in an extremely remote area that had no communication services. The camp was roughly 100km away from the nearest tower. Constructing a new repeater tower to service a temporary site would be a costly undertaking.
The Solution
Our highly skilled Network Team conducted multiple path studies to determine an ideal location for the repeater tower. The terrain was very rugged and presented one major challenge; there was no power within proximity of the site. Our team designed and constructed an off the grid remote service unit (RSU) that can generate enough power to support the radios and additional hardware. The system utilizes solar, wind and fuel cells to maintain a constant power supply. Our NOC can remotely monitor the system to insure optimal power levels are maintained. Once the RSU and portable tower were in place our team proceeded with the microwave links. The team successfully commissioned a 60km backhaul link from the main tower to service the temporary camp. Rigstar was also responsible for installing the TV system and local area network (LAN) – Cabling, Switches, Routers, Access Points and VoIP phones.
The Outcome
The camp is receiving a dedicated 300Mbps connection to supply their staff and workers with reliable Internet services, along with a customized TV solution. Rigstar’s 24/7 NOC is providing remote monitoring services and support.
