Rural Alberta residents to get new or faster internet through government investment
CALGARY, ALBERTA – The Government of Canada launched a $500-million Connect to Innovate program for 2018. CTI will help 39 rural communities across Canada get new or faster internet, 5 of these communities being Indigenous. Rigstar, along with 6 other Alberta companies, will be receiving funding from this program that will see infrastructure builds and improvements in 2018.
Rigstar is awarded $217,000 to provide enhanced internet connectivity to 164 households in the community of Kew and surrounding areas. The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development announced in Calgary on March 15, 2018 at the Calgary Central Library, that $22.5 million of the $500 million Connect to Innovate program will be invested in rural Alberta.
